About Us...
Rochdale Citizen Advocacy was formed in 1986 as a response to the social exclusion of people with learning disabilities and the disadvantage this creates.. It is run by a voluntary management committee made up of citizens who are committed to seeking justice for and the acceptance of people with learning disabilities within society. The scheme employs two co-ordinators.
We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. We are an independent not for profit organisation. We are currently funded by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and the Big Lottery.
Our scheme seeks out people with learning disabilities of all ages living in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton who need advocates. We then recruit, orientate and support ordinary competent people to become advocates.
Citizen Advocacy is about building one to one relationships between community members and people with learning disabilities.
